NEW EXECUTIVE TEAM FOR THE LIGA

Dr. Imberechts
President

Dr. Jacques Imberechts (Belgium) has been elected President of the Liga Medicorum Homeopathica Internationalis for the term 1998-2001. Born 07 August 1930 in the small Belgium town of Gembloux, the eldest of nine children of a general practitioner, Dr. Imberechts took his grammar schooling there. Following secondary schooling at Basse-Wavre College and a year at the Jesuit Faculty Notre Dame de la Paix, he studied medicine at the Catholic University of Louvain. Dr. Imberechts’ interest in pharmacology was piqued by his work with Parke-Davis and Company with clinical investigation for new products. While working with Dr. Jean Mouffe in cellulotherapy in 1965, he first learned of homeopathy. In 1968, his dissertation on the Snake Venoms made him a member of the Royal Society for Homeopathy. Having met Dr. Pierre Schmidt in 1970, he studied
with him extensively, as well as studying with Dr. Tomas Paschero and Dr. Proceso Sanchez Ortega.

In 1975, Dr. Imberechts participated in the founding of the study group that led ultimately to Homeopathica Europa and, in 1984, Homeopathica Internationalis. He has been the LMHI Assistant National Vice President for Belgium 1976, LMHI National Vice President for Belgium 1979, and the General Secretary for Education 1977-82. Dr. Imberechts was nominated Prime Vice President of the Liga in 1995 at the New Delhi Congress. He was also one of the founding members of the European Committee for Homeopathy, achieving its Presidency in 1996.

Dr. Amengual
Prime Vice President

Dr. Carles Amengual i Vicens (Spain) has been elected Vice President of the Liga
Medicorum Homeopathica Internationalis. Born on 05 November 1956 in the village of
Selva, Mallorca, the son of a general practitioner and the grandson of a pharmacist, Dr. Amengual’s early years were spent there. He attended the Franciscan College in Palma for middle and secondary school, entering medical studies at the University of Barcelona at 16. During his studies and reading, he first learned of acupuncture and then homeopathy. On receiving his medical degree, he went to Taiwan to study Chinese Medicine for three years. Later, he studied botany (Philippines), biological sciences (Balearic Islands), and pharmaceutical botany (Pisa, Italy). Dr. Amengual has studied homeopathy at the Academia Medico Homeopathica de Barcelona, the Faculty of Homeopathy and the Instituto de Estudies Superiores de Oaxaca, Mexico.

From 1988 until 1994, Dr. Amengual served as the National Vice President for Spain.
One of the founders of the European Committee for Homeopathy in 1990, he was coordinator for the Subcommittee of Education for three years. In 1990, he was President of the 45th Congress of LMHI held in Barcelona and in 1991 he attained the Presidency of the Academia Medico Homeopathica de Barcelona which continues to the present. He was elected Prime General Secretary of the Liga in New Delhi in 1995.

Dr. Fischer
Prime General Secretary

Dr. Ulrich Fischer has been elected General Secretary of the Liga. Born 14 July 1954 in a small village near Stuttgart to a homeopathic veterinarian father, Dr. Fischer had an early introduction to homeopathy. On completion of his studies at the international boarding school of Salem, he chose to pursue the study of medicine. While waiting to matriculate, he studied homeopathy with Dr. Voegell (Switzerland), Dr. Dorcsi (Vienna), and Dr. Eichelberger (Munich). Because of the less than satisfactory conditions at German Medical Universities at the time, Dr. Fischer decided to learn Spanish and travel to Mexico where he successfully applied to medical school. He also studied postgraduately with the postgraduately at the Homeopatia de Mexico of Dr. P. Sanchez Ortega. Having a private family practice, he has also been, since 1984, a teacher in the 3 year program in homeopathy for medical doctors and for 10 years he has held the official teaching post for homeopathy in the Pharmaceutical Institute, University of Freiburg.

In 1991, Dr. Fischer was elected LMHI National Vice President for Germany. In 1990, he was one of the founders of the European Committee for Homeopathy, still representing Germany there in the Subcommittee for Politics and Education. Since 1997, he has been a member of the Board of the German Association of Homeopathic Physicians.

Dr. Nicolai
Treasurer

Dr. Ton Nicolai has been re-elected Treasurer of the Liga. Born 02 September 1947, Dr. Nicolai acquired his medical degree at Leiden University. Somewhat disillusioned about the curative possibilities of conventional medicine, Dr. Nicolai took up the study of acupuncture in 1978. This led him to other alternative therapies, including homeopathy. Having no fully designed homeopathic training opportunities in the Netherlands at the time, Dr. Nicolai studied from books and attended courses and seminars at home and abroad from George Vithoulkas, Roger Morrison, Bill Gray, Alphons Geukens, Rajas Sankaran, and Massimio Mangialavori, and others. In 1988, Dr. Nicolai focused his practice on full-time homeopathic consulting.

Dr. Nicolai has served for six years on the Board of the Netherlands Homeopathic Medical Association. Since 1994, he has served as the political coordinator for the European Committee for Homeopathy and since 1996 has been its secretary. In 1990, he was elected Liga National Vice President for the Netherlands. He first became Liga Treasurer in 1994.
