Present Georgia containes ancient territories of kingdoms of Colchis and Iberia.
It was Christianized in 337 A.D., and conquered by Arabs in 8th century.
In the XI and XII centuries A.D. under the reigns of king David and queen Tamara Georgia expanded and included area from the Black Sea to Caspian and parts of Armenia and Persia, later the country desintegrated under impacts of Mongol and Turkish invasions.
In 1801 was annexed by Russian Empire. In 1921 Georgia under bolsheviks entered the URSS. After break down of the URSS, Georgia re-established independence on May 26, 1992.
Georgia is Orthodox Christian land; Georgians speak Georgian and have their own alphabet.
