THE LIGA LETTER - October 1999

54th LMHI CONGRESS IN SALVADOR - BAHIA (BRAZIL)

Bahia Othon Palace Hotel,
venue of the 54th Congress of LMHI, Salvador de Bahia, Brazil

In October, from the 11th to 15th , at last came to fruition the LMHI Congress in Bahia.
It has been anticipated since the International Congress in Oaxaca ( Mexico) in 1995 when, for the first time, homeopaths of the entire world received little “Bahian dollies” and the famous “Senhor do Bonfim” strings. If you were not in Salvador in October you should know that you missed the opportunity to receive them, along with the luck that it is said that they bring.

There were 549 registrations:
Argentina 45; Australia 1;Austria 4; Belgium 6; Brazil 401; Denmark 1; England 2; France 5; Germany 19; Holland 8; Hungary 1; India 4; Israel 3; Italy 15; Mexico 8; Norway 1; Portugal 5; Russia 1; Switzerland 3; Ukraine 1; Uruguay 4; USA 3.
The main difference between this LMHI congress and others, we maintain, was the organizational device of “Fora” meetings that happened prior to the official opening of the Congress. Homeopathic Education, Homeopathic Research, Homeopathy in Public Health Services, Ethic and Professional Defense, and Pharmacy were discussed, each one in a different “Forum”. Surprising and exciting was the extensive participation of many homeopaths from several countries. We hope that the exchanging of experiences and information will be useful in each country to further development of Homeopathy and Homeopathic Associations.
The Round Tables and even the presentation of papers, allowed plenty of time for subsequent discussion so that all subjects could be properly studied.
Another surprise was the number of participants present in the sessions in spite of the inviting beaches and delicious sun of Salvador. They were really a formidable rival, but could not spoil the scientific success of the Congress.

Three social events cheered the participants: all of them had as the main point the Brazilian (I mean Bahian) dance. Nobody could resist their infectious joy and enthusiasm. It was quite a sight to see everybody dancing as if they really had been born in Bahia.

The Salvadoran square called Pelourinho, near which participants
joined in a festive Pelourinho Night of dancing and music.

We tried to organize a harmonious Congress, with joy and seriousness. We had the help of many homeopathic patients, Brazilian and foreign friends, and associations that made their contribution in one or another way.

The Organization and Executive Commission of the 54th LMHI Congress:
Dra Dalva de Andrade Monteiro, Dra Patricia Moura and Dra Tatiana Bathomarco (Organizing Committee),
Dra Angela Augusta Lanner Vieira (Brazilian Vice President), Dr José Raimundo Mota de Jesus (Organizing
Committee Coordinator), Dra Cristina Ravazzano Fontes (Organizing Committee), Dra Margarida Maria Vieira (President), Dr Matheus Marim (Scientific Committee Coordinator), Dr Cláudio Carvalho de Araújo,
Dr Paulo Bacelar (President - Sociedade Médica Homeopática da Bahia- SMHB)

We hope that we have left in each participant’s heart a warm remembrance of Bahia. We surely will remember all of you for a long time. And as we say in Bahia: AX…!

Help Save Hahnemann House at Köthen

A half a million Deutsch marks has been spent so far in the project in Germany. Much more money is required to complete the renovations of this historic property in which Samuel Hahnemann lived with his family.

The Verein zur Forderung der Hoompathie e. V. has produced a beautiful memento the proceeds of the sale of which will support the completion of the renovation of the Hahnemann House. On a beautiful card bearing a reproduction of a painting of Hahnemann, in his 70’s, which is on display in the Robert Bosch Foundation in Stuttgart is encased a small piece of wood from the rafters of this house at Köthen. A donation of 500 Deutsch marks (about $278) will entitle the donor to one of these well-designed souvenirs of this historic dwelling.

A donation of 1000 Deutsch marks (about $556) entitles one to have one’s name listed on a plaque in the Hahnemann House at Köthen.
