THE LIGA LETTER - October 1997

GENERAL SECRETARY REPORTS

GENERAL SECRETARY FOR ARCHIVES
Dr. Alberto Soler Medina

Work has been done in London to classify the LMHI Archives.

A proposal to have them in Barcelona is offered. The aim is to finish their evaluation, classification and computerization. If the required equipment is provided by the LMHI (figures are given), it would not involve any economical cost. It could be finished in one year based on weekly effort.

GENERAL SECRETARY FOR EDUCATION
Dr. César Luis Cremonini

After 3 years of working on the Minimum Basic Program for Homœopathy, the International Committee agreed to start working with the program in the countries that have already accepted it, and make an evaluation of the results of its application. During the evaluation time, all other countries will continue to receive permanent information about the results, and a permanent invitation to join it at any time, for a global effort towards a high level homœopathy.

GENERAL SECRETARY FOR PUBLIC RELATIONS
Dr. José Matuk Kanan

An Internet place for the LMHI has been created, at the WWW site: http://www.lmhi.org.mx.
We will highly appreciate your comments and suggestions. In this page, promotion of different activities of the LMHI can be done: congresses, activities, news.

A call for the history of homœopathy in each country is requested, to be introduced at the www page. A new LMHI Directory 1997 was distributed to all IC members. Corrections made at this meeting will be incorporated in the near future and immediately sent as a new, up-dated Directory.

Translation of the Statutes in Spanish was done, and the Portuguese translation was received.
A standardization of the NVP Annual Reports is again suggested, in order to have a summary with the following: 1. LMHI members, 2. National Homœopathic associations, 3. Homœopathic Journals, 4. Homœopathic Activities during the year, 5. Homœopathic news, 6. Teaching, 7. Publications in Homœopathy, 8. Legal status.

This Secretary strongly suggests the simultaneous translation tradition be continued during the Congress, including national and English, as well as French, German, Spanish and Portuguese.

GENERAL SECRETARY FOR PHARMACY
Dr. Amarilys de Toledo Cesar

This Secretary would like to thank Dr. S. Chase for sending the current edition of the Homœopathic Pharmacopœia of the United States (HPUS).

Two tasks are being done:
- the continuation of the Nomenclature of homœopathic remedies. This work was modified and revised, starting now from the HPUS and then adding information from the German Homœopathic Pharmacopoeia (HAB). Half of the substances of the vegetable source are listed.
- a basic text on Homœopathic Good Manufacturing Practices (HGMP). The text from the HPUS was adopted, with some modifications from French texts and personal experience.
For a second time, a pharmacists' meeting will take place during the LMHI congress. Those interested should contact the Secretary for Pharmacy.
It is necessary to go on working on the Nomenclature, and to revise the homœopathic GMP text. All those that want to help and participate are welcome.

A first meeting of Pharmacy took place in Capri, October 1996, where the participants agreed about the general guidelines of the work that should be performed by the Secretary of Pharmacy of the L.M. H. I.

In a second meeting, in Seattle, ten participants decided to merge their efforts in order to avoid duplication of works about:
1 – Nomenclature of remedies
2 – Homoeopathic, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
3 – Techniques of manufacturing and preparation of the remedies

A proposal for an International Homœopathic Compendium was presented and discussed for sharing the collaboration. The participants offered to present or/and send in proposals for both a meeting about Homœopathic Pharmacology and papers to be included in the agenda of the next 53rd International Homœopathic Congress in Amsterdam, in April 1998.

We call for papers about the production of remedies, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and the delivery of homœopathic remedies. It was decided to encourage, in other countries, this call for papers for the next L. M. H. I. Congress, about Homœopathic Pharmacy in homœopathic journals. We would like to submit al least 10 papers. Each participant is invited to send a personal letter to all persons that could be interested in Homœopathic Pharmacy and Pharmacology.

Ammanullah Bismil, from Pakistan, offered to work on a specific Pakistanese plant. Veronica Cremonini, from Argentina, offered to work on Ruta graveolens; Amarilys de Toledo Cesar, from Brazil, chose lpecacuanha and Steven Kayne, from U.K., Arnica montana.

Mark Phillips, from USA, will inform us about the possibilities of having a conference room on Homeonet.

We would like to ask for papers in this area to be sent to the Scientific Committee of the next L.M.H.I. Congress in Amsterdam, and also to encourage suggestions for presentations and subjects to be discussed in a "satellite room" for the same occasion. Please, contact the Secretary of Pharmacy of the L.M.H.I., Amarilys de Toledo Cesar, fax or e-mail: .

A satellite meeting for the pharmaceutical programme is planned for the next Congress in Amsterdam. For the third consecutive year, a meeting with pharmacists and homeopathic doctors and veterinarians involved in pharmacy, will take place during the Congress. Some issues to be covered are an International Homeopathic GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), proposals for nomenclature of remedies, drafts for an International Homeopathic Compendium, etc.

Please propose subjects to be discussed and names/addresses of pharmacists that could be contacted in your country to the LMHI Secretary for Pharmacy, Amarilys de Toledo Cesar, rua Cristiano Viana 67, 05411-000 Sao Paolo, SP, Brazil. Fax: +55-11-883-1616. email: ."

Estimate for 1997

The 1997 expenditures will amount up to CHF 102,000. Owing to a reduction of the individual membership dues from CHF 15 to 10 per annum, the receipts (including dividends and interests) will amount up to approx. CHF 70,000. That means that the LMHI will have a net deficit for the year 1997 of approx. CHF 32,000 and that the LMHI assets will start to decrease.
